3/11/2011 – Daylight Savings Time already?
Tonight we turn our clocks forward. Fortunately for us, this lovely annual chore is not happening on a horse show weekend. I remember many late Saturday nights and extra early Sunday mornings and wondering why exactly did we need to do this. I still don’t know.
Show season is weeks away. Hopefully you are getting prepared by cleaning tack, checking trail tires, organizing show clothes, and of course, working your horses. With the cold and wet weather hopefully dwindling, hitting the trails will be a little more pleasant. I don’t know about you but I don’t exactly enjoy finishing a ride being soaked to the bone!
Our last club gathering was at Krain’s Corner in Enumclaw and was superbly attended. In fact, we had to add more tables to accomodate the 17 people who braved the traffic and rain to meet us for dinner. Thanks to the great staff at Krain’s for being polite even though we stayed over an hour past closing! There was much discussion about ideas for clinics and the upcoming Tennessee Saturday Night Horse Show and everyone enjoyed catching up. We hope you can join us at the next meeting – Tuesday, April 5th at Johnny’s at Fife.
Membership applications are pouring in ~ have you sent yours yet? Perks of membership include unlimited use of the ‘For Sale’ page. We are also collecting member profiles, so send me an email with a little bit about yourself, history with Walking Horses, or anything else you’d like to share as well as a photo. It’s always fun to learn new things about your fellow exhibitors!
Have you ever considered taking a position on the Board of Directors? If you come to the majority of club meetings anyway, why not? You can help shape the direction of the club and it doesn’t take very much time. We also welcome people to volunteer for committees and help organize trail rides, plan events, revise bylaws, and put on a great horse show every year. Your ideas and input are valuable to the success of our organization and we greatly appreciate it!

2/1/2011 – Celebrating the Season… Show season!
This past weekend was spent by many at the Great Wolf Lodge near Centralia, WA at the Northwest Regional High Point Banquet. The Great Wolf is a resort-style hotel with indoor water park, spa, gift shop, swim shop, teen club, kids club, snack shop, kid’s spa, and multiple restaurants. The youngsters that I know enjoyed all the activities offered at the kid’s club and of course, the water park.
The annual WIWHA meeting was held on Saturday and many issues were discussed. One of the most important is that the lite-shod shoe dimensions are changed to a maximum 1 inch, and the 1/16″ tolerance on shoe widths was removed. This means that any shoe that is oversize for its division will be a technical penalty, resulting in disqualification from the show. Be sure to measure your shoes so you don’t have any problems when you head to the showring.
The awards dinner Saturday was a great time for all. Having worked on organizing it for over 1.5 years, I was very glad that everyone enjoyed it. We had a slideshow of photos (recent and not-so-recent), a photo booth for everyone to get their picture taken (printed out with a souvenier folder), talent show, raffle (the winner received $277!), and gorgeous awards – ribbons, plaques, horse head trophies, and sweatshirts. The service from the Great Wolf staff was excellent and the buffet dinner offered something for everyone. It really was a fun evening! Photos are on the High Point page.
